Rumor: Aaron Rodgers to the San Francisco 49ers

When the relationship with the Green Bay Packers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers was getting torn up this past offseason, the veteran QB made it known he's interested in a trade to the San Francisco 49ers.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was the first to report the news of Rodgers preferring to head to San Fran. The long-time Packer is a native of Chico, California and is getting set to face off against the 49ers on Sunday Night Football in Week 3.

Once the news dropped the 49ers management team was interested. They contacted the Packers to see what the cost would be to acquire Rodgers, but were quickly told a trade was not in the cards. Niners general manager John Lynch opened up about a deal almost happening back in April but couldn't get things finalized. Here's what Lynch had to say about landing Rodgers in Cali:

You're talking about the MVP of our league last year. I don't know about you guys, but when the MVP of the league might be available - and I didn't know that, I'm just reading the tea leaves like everybody else and saying, 'Hold on, is something going on here?' Yeah, we inquired. And it was a quick end to the conversation. It wasn't happening

There's potential a deal could come up once again during the season, but chances are slim. It would take the Packers struggling and playing themselves out of the playoff picture before the team would throw in the towel on Rodgers leading the way. If they decide to, there's no doubt the 49ers will be at the top of the list and the likely destination for the future hall of famer.
