New England Patriots Making Surprising Roster Move
The New England Patriots have sent shockwaves through the NFL on Wednesday as the team is releasing former defensive player of the year, cornerback Stephon Gilmore.
A stunner: Patriots are releasing four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who was eligible to come off the Physically Unable to Perform List after Week 6, source tells ESPN. pic.twitter.com/31H8KQF8hq

ESPN's Adam Schefter was first to report the news and while the Pats love to do things their way, this move is still a head-scratcher. Gilmore was eligible to come off the physically unable to perform list after Week 6, and many felt he was just going to jump right back in with the Patriots. Turns out that's not the case at all, and the team sides tried to renegotiate his contract and nothing came to fruition.
There's going to be a ton of interest in Gilmore, as the four-time Pro Bowler still has lots in the tank and will catch on with a contender. Once again Bill Belichick's roster decisions have people in the league wondering what the hell he's up to.
