NFL Rumors: Vikings lose Thielen to IR

After a disappointing loss to the LA Rams this past weekend, the Minnesota Vikings have unfortunately suffered another major setback in their endeavor to secure a position amidst the NFC playoff picture this season.

Sources around the league are confirming that as of Wednesday, the Vikings have officially placed star WR Adam Thielen on IR and he will be unavailable for the remainder of the year. The injury has been consistently designated the last several weeks as an ongoing ankle issue and Thielen has reportedly already undergone surgery earlier this week in order to address it.

The initial injury was sustained against Detroit at the onset of December, and was further aggravated against the Rams last week following Thielen's return from a two game absence.

As an offense playmaker, Thielen is a crucial asset for the Vikings to be without as they are set to head to Lambeau Field this Sunday for a divisional bout that will essentially seal their destiny this season. A loss to the Packers on Sunday night will leave the team with less than a 5% chance to make the playoffs, while a win will keep their hopes narrowly alive as they finish the season against Chicago

Through the 13 games Theilen has played this season he has been an important contributor towards the Vikings passing attack, accounting for 67 receptions, 726 yards and 10 touchdowns. While the Vikings do have a premier talent opposite of Thielen in youngster Justin Jefferson, it would definitely be ideal to have the pair on field together as they attempt to make a final swing for the playoffs.

On a positive note, the Vikings are expecting to have RB Dalvin Cook available for their matchup against the Packers as he was activated from the reserve/covid19 list.
