New England Patriots Running Back Hits Injured Reserve

The New England Patriots scored only once in their Week 1 20-7 defeat to the Miami Dolphins. Now, the player who did it is will miss the next four games. ESPN's Field Yates announced the team will send running back/wide receiver Ty Montgomery to injured reserve.  Montgomery was one of the lone bright spots in a disastrous season opener for the Patriots, clumsily rolling into the end zone after a third-quarter goal-line catch for New England's lone touchdown. The jack-of-all-trades contributed another two catches for nine yards and two carries for -2 yards after being a surprise active despite a preseason knee injury against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Montgomery played the second-most snaps among running backs in New England's backfield committee, behind Damien Harris and ahead of Rhamondre Stevenson. Both those players should expect to see more targets in Montgomery's absence given his pass-catching acumen; Montgomery has 1119 receiving yards in his career to go along with his 1178 rushing yards. He'll miss games against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Green Bay Packers, and Detroit Lions at the very least.
