New York Giants Wide Receiver Injures Knee

The New York Giants will be without one of their cornerstone pass catchers for the foreseeable future.  Wide receiver Sterling Shepard suffered what appeared to be a serious knee injury in the final minutes of the team's 23-16 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, it is expected to cost him the remainder of the season. Shepard went down with a non-contact injury during the Giants' final offensive play of the game. He stumbled during a route and appeared in significant pain before being carted to the locker room. He led his team in receiving yards against the Cowboys with five catches for 49 yards. His unavailability could complicate the Giants' attempts to trade wide receiver Kenny Golladay. In his absence, David Sills and Kadarius Toney could see increased snaps and targets.

Shepard joined the Giants as their 40th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He has tallied 362 receptions for 4038 yards over his 75 appearances for the team. A respected leader and veteran presence, he was set for unrestricted free agency in 2023. Hopefully, he can make a full recovery and find an opportunity to reestablish his value in New York or elsewhere.
