NFL Rumors: Saints Running Back Downgraded, Could Miss Week 2

The New Orleans Saints could be short their biggest star in Week 2's NFC South showdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The team announced in their official injury report that running back Alvin Kamara was downgraded to DNP today following yesterday's limited practice.
Kamara injured his rib in Week 1's stunning comeback against the Atlant Falcons and was held to a modest 46 yards from scrimmage on his 12 touches. The five-time Pro Bowler has been an essential runner and receiver for the Saints since being drafted in 2018, rushing for 4277 yards so far in his career and adding another 3270 through the air. Should he miss time, the Saints will likely lean heavily on Mark Ingram to run and catch out of the backfield. They might also promote recently-signed running back Latavius Murray to their 53-man roster.

The Saints are entering a crucial section of their schedule, with games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carolina Panthers, and Minnesota Vikings in the coming weeks. Considering the degree to which the Saints have dominated the Bucs in recent years, maybe they're better off saving Kamara for fiercer opposition.
