San Francisco 49ers Sign Running Back

Maybe the San Francisco 49ers liked what they saw in their preseason finale against the Houston Texans. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the team is signing running back Marlon Mack to the practice squad:
Mack played against the 49ers in Week 3 of the NFL preseason, tallying 55 yards on 10 carries. The 49ers are likely adding depth in the wake of starter Elijah Mitchell's recent knee injury; Mitchell is likely to miss around two months. Mack could be elevated to the 53-man roster soon should any more injuries pile up in the backfield.

Initially taken 143rd in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts, Mack got off to a hot start in the league before various injuries derailed his last couple of seasons. His best year came in 2019 when he led the Colts with 1091 rushing yards at an impressive 4.4 yards per attempt. Should the 49ers call on him, he'll probably take some early down rushing attempts off the plates of running back Jeff Wilson Jr. and wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
