Browns And Newly Acquired Linebacker Agree To Alter Contract

The Cleveland Browns, after such a promising start to the 2022 NFL season have fallen to 2-4, but with a talented roster, they still believe there's a chance at making the playoffs in a crowded AFC, hence why they last week made the move to trade for former Pro Bowl linebacker Deion Jones from the Atlanta Falcons. The move was made to help this already fantastic defence, and with the recent loss to the New England Patriots, it's becoming clear that if this team can't get healthy and start playing together as a defensive unit, they can kiss their playoff hopes goodbye.

Acquiring Jones was a very smart move however, as the veteran linebacker can be a leader for this team that possesses a fantastic secondary and an amazing defensive line, led by Jadeveon Clowney and Myles Garrett, and now, they've got the leader and organizer in the middle to lead this team around, and they need him if they are to turn their recent misfortunes around.

Today, the two sides came to an agreement to drop the final year off of Jones' current contract, meaning that at the end of the 2022 season, he will become a free agent, and at 27-years of age, he's still got plenty left in the tank, meaning it could be a great contract. It's unclear why this deal was made, but it was mutual, so another great linebacker will be headlining the potential free agent class of 2023.
