Giants Sign Former Jets Tight End To Practice Squad

The New York Giants and New York Jets are two of the most surprising teams in the NFL in 2022, with a combined record of 9-3 through six weeks, and if they can somehow continue on this path, they would be two of the most unlikely playoff teams in NFL history. Today, the 5-1 Giants claimed one of the Jets talented young players off waivers, as they added tight end Lawrence Cager to the practice squad, and although the Jets certainly wanted him back, it's a good choice for Cager, who is stuck behind a deep tight end roster with the Jets.

Cager went un-drafted back in 2020, and joined the Jets as a wide receiver, but after being made clear it's a position he wouldn't succeed at, he swallowed a very tough pill, and with a bit more size, has the potential to be a significant contributor at tight end in the NFL.

With just 2 catches for 35 yards in his career, he's not quite shown it yet, but Cager was one of the most sought after un-drafted free agents in the 2020 class, and if he gets a chance to shine, there's no doubt he can have a good career. The Giants are having trouble keeping players on the field, so he has a good chance to play with the other New York team, and it has the chance to be a very good pickup for the Giants.
