New York Jets Release Young Tight End

The New York Jets have been off to a surprisingly solid start in 2022, with a 3-2 record through five weeks, and while they may not be able to maintain this pace through 17 weeks, they've got plenty of young talent that currently have them looking like they can compete with anyone in the NFL. In 5 games, the team have had 3 NFL Rookie of the Week award winners in Garrett Wilson (Week 2), Breece Hall (Week 4) and Sauce Gardner (Week 5), but unfortunately for New York, not every one of their young prospects has panned out.

They've got others with potential like Elijah Moore, Michael Clemons, Jermaine Johnson and Max Mitchell, but unfortunately, today, the team came to terms with the release of Lawrence Cager, an un-drafted wide receiver turned tight end who they had plenty of hope for.

In limited opportunities in his two year career, Cager has just two catches for 35 yards, but with the size, speed and talent to be a contributor at the NFL level, but right now, the Jets just have too many other young skill position players, that it's in the best interest to let Cager go.
