Patriots Release Wide Receiver

The New England Patriots are reshaping the backend of their receiving corps. The team announced Tuesday afternoon that it had released Lil' Jordan Humphrey from their 53-man roster. Humphrey had played a fairly substantial role for the Patriots through five weeks, logging 151 snaps between offense and special teams. However, he had yet to earn much trust from his quarterbacks, registering a mere four targets.

While lacking a true superstar, the Patriots are deep at receiver: Jakobi Meyers, Nelson Agholor, Devante Parker, and Kendrick Bourne have all solidified their places as the team's top four pass catchers. Humphrey simply couldn't shake up the depth chart.
Humphrey latched on in the league as an undrafted free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 2019. An ironically big-bodied receiver, Humphrey had his best year in 2021, logging career-highs in snaps with 261 and receiving yards with 249. He'll likely find a place for himself on a practice squad or even a 53- man roster in the coming days.
