Seahawks Claim Running Back

Following the devastating loss of running back Rashaad Penny, the Seahawks bolstered their depth by perusing the waiver wire on Monday. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the team successfully claimed former New Orleans Saints running back Tony Jones.
Penny suffered an ankle injury in Week 5's 39-32 loss to the New Orleans Saints. He had been off to a scintillating start to the season, averaging 6.1 yards per attempt on his 346 rushing yards. He is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

Jones is a relatively unproven running back with a mere 59 carries across his 14 appearances. He has struggled in his limited snaps, averaging a meagre 2.8 yards per rushing attempt over his three-year career. Despite his lack of success, he was apparently a hot commodity on the waiver wire: the Seahawks won out over attempted claims from the Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos. Jones entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame, earning his first major opportunity as a pro with the New Orleans Saints in 2020. The Saints waived him on October 8th.
