Texans Grant Linebacker His Release
The Houston Texans are on the precipice of calling it quits on the 2022 regular season after a 1-4-1 start, and now some of their veterans are looking for greener pastures. The team is granting starting linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill's request for release.
Grugier-Hill has started 20 games for the Texans over the past two years. The seven-year veteran led the team in tackles in 2021, totalling 108 stops with 3.0 sacks and 13 tackles for loss. He has regressed in 2022: he currently ranks fourth on the team with 40 total tackles and sports a 30.0 overall grade from Pro Football Focus. Teams will inevitably need reliable snaps at linebacker as injuries mount through the regular season, but Grugier-Hill isn't likely to be a game-changing talent for whatever team he ends up on.Veteran LB Kamu Grugier-Hill asked for and will be given his release from the #Texans, per me and @RapSheet. He has 40 tackles this season and leaves Houston ranking first (20) and second (18) in franchise history in tackles in a game.

Grugier-Hill entered the league as the 208th overall pick of the New England Patriots in the 2016 NFL Draft. He never caught on with the Patriots, finding his first regular season action with Philadelphia Eagles. He appeared in 54 games for the team, making 16 starts and 76 total tackles. He pitched in one year with the Miami Dolphins before finding his way to the Texans in 2021.
