Cardinals Rule Out Cornerback for MNF

The Arizona Cardinals will be without one of their only bright spots on a struggling defense when they take the field against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football. The team has declared cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. out for tomorrow's game in Mexico City.

Murphy has been unavailable since suffering a neck injury in the Cardinals' Week 9 31-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He had started nine games and broken up four passes for the team.

Murphy has been a stalwart on the outside for the Cardinals' secondary since the team drafted him 33rd overall in 2019.  He had arguably his best season just last year, setting personal bests in interceptions (4), passes broken up (12), and passer rating allowed (87.6).

A free agent at the end of the season, Murphy could be in line for a significant commitment from the Cardinals or another team. He's a candidate for the franchise tag and will likely command a contract in the neighborhood of Carlton Davis' three-year, $44.5 million deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
