Chargers' Top Wide Receivers Return to Practice

The Los Angeles Chargers offense may finally fulfill its promise at just the right time. According to head coach Brandon Staley, wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams will return to practice today, potentially putting them in line to play in Sunday Night Football's crucial AFC West showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs. Williams has been out since suffering an ankle injury in the Chargers' Week 7 37-23 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Allen has been largely unavailable since injuring his hamstring in Week 1's 24-19 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, only briefly returning for 23 snaps in Week 7.

Despite his two missed games, Williams remains the Chargers' leading receiver with 495 yards. He and Allen formed one of the league's most devastating receiving tandems when they were both healthy in 2021, combining for 2284 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns for the league's fifth-ranked scoring offense.

Should Williams and Allen both be ready to go by Sunday, the Chargers will have a chance to close the gap with the Chiefs in the AFC West. A win would lift the Chargers to 6-4 and drop the Chiefs to 7-3, each with seven games to go in the regular season. With the Chiefs facing their own issues at wide receiver, the Chargers may not get a better chance to steal a game against their division rivals.
