Giants And Star Running Back To Table Extension Talks Until After The Season

The New York Giants have been one of the biggest surprises in the NFL thus far in 2022, and while there are many reasons for this huge step forward for the organization, one of the biggest on the field has been the bounce back of superstar running back Saquon Barkley.

Barkley is in the fifth year of his rookie deal following being drafted No. 2 overall back in 2018, and now, he is just 30 yards short of 1,000 overall in the 2022 season, despite having nine games to go in the year, and unsurprisingly, it's led to interest from both parties in getting a long-term extension signed. While there's been talk in recent weeks, the Giants and Barkley have now agreed to table extension talks until after the year, which will allow New York to focus on their stretch run and looking to capture an NFC East division crown.

While it's not always wise to pay running backs big money, Barkley is an absolute game changer, and if the Giants believe that they can build a successful team around him going forward, then getting a deal done here would be a good play for both teams.
