NFL Announces NFC Players of the Week

The NFL revealed its NFC Players of the Week for Week 8, and they include a pair of recent acquisitions making big splashes for their new teams.
On offense, recently acquired running back Christian McCaffrey dominated in only his second appearance with the San Francisco 49ers. The one-time All-Pro demonstrated his astonishing versatility by compiling 149 yards from scrimage and a pair of touchdowns while also completing a 34-yard pass for a touchdown in a crucial 31-14 win over the Los Angeles Rams. If performances like this one become the standard, McCaffrey will quickly prove a steal for the 49ers.

On defense, Minnesota Vikings edge rusher Za'Darius Smith reestablished himself as one of the league's premier pass rushers with an incredible 3.0 sack, four tackle-for-loss performance against the Arizona Cardinals. After missing all but 18 snaps in his 2021 season with the Green Bay Packers, Smith has proven an absolute steal this year for the Vikings; he leads the league with 8.5 sacks and 13 tackles for loss.

As for special teams, Seattle Seahawks tight end Will Dissly earns recognition for his forced fumble and fumble recovery in his team's 27-13 win over the New York Giants.
