NFL Rumors: Quarterback Matt Ryan Could Start Again This Season for Colts

The Indianapolis Colts have had one of the wildest weeks in recent NFL history, and they may just be getting started. Following Monday's hiring of interim head coach Jeff Saturday, the team could return quarterback Matt Ryan to starting duties should second-year passer Sam Ehlinger struggle again in Week 10. The Colts benched Ryan following a 3-3-1 start to the season. He had thrown nine interceptions and fumbled a staggering 11 times through his seven appearances. Ehlinger hasn't been any better in replacement, losing both his starts and netting a mere 232 total passing yards.

Ehlinger's performance against the New England Patriots in Week 9 was particularly egregious. He took nine sacks and threw a pick-six in a 26-3 defeat. If the Colts don't see long-term potential in Ehlinger and decide he won't benefit from the playing time, Ryan could easily prove a more effective quarterback over the back half of the season. He has averaged 260.8 net passing yards per game across his seven starts.

Regardless of who plays, the Colts don't have a good option at quarterback. They rank last in the league in points scored through nine weeks. Interim head coach Jeff Saturday has his work cut out.
