Carolina Panthers Offer Injury Update on Cornerback

The Carolina Panthers have clarified the injury situation of their budding superstar at defensive back. Interim head coach Steve Wilks told reporters at his Wednesday press conference that cornerback Jaycee Horn underwent successful wrist surgery yesterday and will be re-evaluated in 10-12 days to see if he can play again this season. Horn suffered a wrist injury in the Panthers' Week 16 37-23 win over the Detroit Lions. He logged 44 total snaps and six tackles before his exit. Wilks' timeline suggests Horn will likely miss Week 17's showdown with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Horn was in the middle of a stellar season with the Panthers, so his unavailability could prove devastating in a matchup that is likely to decide the NFC South. Horn has allowed an exceptional 62.6 passer rating on throws in his direction this year while nabbing three interceptions and breaking up seven passes. Luckily for the Panthers, they've already shown they can get the better of the Bucs without him: they crushed their NFC South rival 21-3 in Week 7, a game Horn missed.

Horn initially joined the Panthers as their eighth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He showed incredible promise in limited action as a rookie, allowing only a 39.6 passer rating on throws in his direction across his three starts. Unfortunately, injuries have kept him from earning the notoriety his play deserves: Sunday will mark his 17th missed game in less than two seasons.
