Los Angeles Rams QB to Miss MNF

The Los Angeles Rams aren't hiding their intentions at quarterback this week. Head coach Sean McVay informed reporters Tuesday that quarterback John Wolford will miss Monday's game against the Green Bay Packers, clearing the way for Baker Mayfield to get the start. Wolford started last week against the Las Vegas Raiders despite the neck injury, handing the ball off three times before exiting. Mayfield took over, leading an improbable and thrilling fourth-quarter rally with two touchdowns in the final four minutes to top the Raiders 17-16. Mayfield had only joined the Rams earlier that week.

With Wolford unequivocally out for Monday's game, Mayfield may not be able to get the drop on the Packers like he did with the Raiders. He had one of the worst games of his life last year with the Cleveland Browns in Green Bay, tossing a career-high four interceptions and absorbing five sacks in a 24-22 Christmas day defeat.

Mayfield entered the league as the first-overall pick of the Browns in the 2018 NFL Draft after a star-making and Heisman Trophy-winning senior season at Oklahoma. He led the Browns to dizzying highs and heartbreaking lows in his 60 appearances with the team, bringing them their first playoff win since the 1994 season while also losing more than half his starts. He squandered a second chance with the Carolina Panthers this year, tossing six interceptions and losing five games in six starts. These last four games with the Rams could easily decide whether he ever sees another starting opportunity.
