New York Jets Name Starting Quarterback for Week 14

The New York Jets may be disappointed following a frustrating 27-22 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 13, but they aren't forcing any brash decisions. Head coach Robert Saleh declared at his Monday press conference that the team will start quarterback Mike White yet again for the team's critical Week 14 matchup with the Buffalo Bills. White netted 366 passing yards on 58 dropbacks in Sunday's loss but threw two interceptions and failed to convert consistently on third down or in the red zone. He was starting in place of second-year quarterback Zach Wilson, who the Jets benched following a Week 11 10-7 loss to the New England Patriots.

White has earned a bit of leeway with his two starts for the Jets this season. He has passed for an eye-popping 342 yards per game at a strong 7.85 net yards per attempt. Wilson averaged 182.7 yards per game at 5.63 net yards per attempt in his seven appearances, and Joe Flacco managed 300.3 yards per game at 5.1 net yards per attempt over his three starts to open the year. Despite Sunday's loss, White still appears to be the best of the motley crew.

White initially joined the Jets in 2019 following a year with the Dallas Cowboys. He earned his first start as a pro in the 2021 season, throwing for a baffling 405 yards in a shocking 34-31 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Halloween. White has proven himself a prolific if mistake-prone passer in his sporadic appearances, totalling 1435 passing yards and eight interceptions over his five career starts.
