Arizona Cardinals Considering Coaching Change

The Arizona Cardinals' nightmare season will come to a merciful end today against the San Francisco 49ers, but its consequences are just beginning. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, owner Michael Bidwell has begun his homework on head coaching candidates. That does not bode well for current head coach Kliff Kingsbury. Kingsbury was somewhat of a surprise hire in the first place, given his youth at the time (40 years old), total lack of experience in the pros, and 35-40 record at Texas Tech. He did, however, coach Patrick Mahomes for three seasons in college, so that's apparently worth something.

Still, Kingsbury hasn't been an outright disaster in four seasons with the Cardinals. They showed steady progress after bottoming out at 3-13 the year before he arrived, climbing to 5-10-1 in 2019, then 8-7 in 2020, then 11-6 last year.

Unfortunately for Kingsbury, that progress came to a screeching halt this season. The Cardinals enter today's game against the 49ers with a 4-12 record and their franchise passer Kyler Murray ailing from a torn ACL that could cost him time next season. Simply put, the Cardinals and their fanbase need a reason to hope. A change at the top could go a long way.
