Houston Texans Grant 2nd Interview to Denver Broncos DC Evero

The Houston Texans are closing in on their head coach of the future. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the team will interview Denver Broncos promising defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero for a second time. Evero's Denver Broncos were one of the NFL's worst teams and finished the regular season 5-12, but his defense was hardly to blame: they finished seventh in yards allowed, fifth in net yards per passing attempt, and 10th in rushing yards allowed. The Broncos stumbled this season almost exclusively because of an offense that scored the fewest points in the league and ranked 26th in giveaways.

Evero has contributed to several successful NFL franchises and has worked under multiple accomplished head coaches. He was an assistant on Jim Harbaugh's San Francisco 49ers and Mike McCarthy's Green Bay Packers and was the safeties coach for Sean McVay's Los Angeles Rams from 2017 to 2021. Despite only one year on his resume as a defensive coordinator, Evero has demonstrated plenty of promise so far and has accumulated meaningful experience in winning organizations.

The Houston Texans are coming off three consecutive seasons with four or fewer wins and do not appear poised for a quick turnaround. If they're willing to commit to a steady, gradual rebuild, a young, inexperienced coach like Evero could be a great fit.
