Sean Payton Reveals New Orleans Saints Asking Price for Trade

No one is a hotter prospect in head coaching hiring circles than former New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton, but no one will come at a steeper price. While appearing on @TheHerd, Payton revealed that the Saints will demand a mid-to-late first-round pick in exchange for his services.

Payton technically remains under contract, so acquiring him will require cooperation from the Saints, not to mention a sizeable contract. When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers snatched Jon Gruden from the Oakland Raiders in 2002, they gave up two first-round and two second-round picks. Payton is significantly more accomplished, but the market isn't what it used to be. One first-round pick could be a bargain for an asset that can radically transform a franchise.

Payton led the Saints to their most glorious period in franchise history, bringing them 10 winning seasons, nine top-five scoring offenses, and a Super Bowl victory following the 2009 season. He has already been linked to the Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos, and the Carolina Panthers.
