San Francisco 49ers Announce Their New Defensive Coordinator

In 2022, the San Francisco 49ers had arguably the best defence in the entire NFL, and unsurprisingly, this led to Defensive Coordinator DeMeco Ryans drawing interest as a Head Coach, eventually landing as the new man in charge of the Houston Texans.

That left the team with a massive hole, but with a great Head Coach, there was always going to be interest for this job, and today, the team has announced they will be signing veteran defensive coach and former Panthers Interim Head Coach Steve Wilks as their new Defensive Coordinator.

The #49ers plan to hire Steve Wilks as their defensive coordinator, sources tell me and @RapSheet.

Wilks has a tremendous track record as a defensive coach, and if the team can keep this core together and add another veteran piece or two, they'll once again be competing with the best of the best in the NFC come 2023.
