San Francisco 49ers GM John Lynch To Return for 2023

The San Francisco 49ers will hold onto their front-office leader for at least another season. General Manager John Lynch told reporters Wednesday that he will remain with the team in 2023.

Lynch has helped transform the 49ers into a perennial contender since taking over the top position in the front office, so he was never in danger of losing his job. Rather, he's merely clarifying his intentions to continue with the team. His current contract runs through the 2024 season, but he entertained the possibility of joining Amazon's Thursday Night Football as an analyst before last season.

Since taking over as GM for the 49ers in 2017, Lynch has compiled one of the league's best rosters and propelled the team to NFC Championship Game appearances in three of the past four years. Either via the draft or free agency, he has played a hand in acquiring nine Pro Bowl players, including Trent Williams, George Kittle, and Deebo Samuel. Assuming he wants to keep his current job, he should be in line for an extension in the near future.
