Texans Hire New Defensive Coordinator; Former Cardinals Coach

DeMeco Ryans and the Houston Texans have found their new defensive coordinator.

The Houston Texans are hiring Matt Burke to be their new defensive coordinator.
Burke served as the Arizona Cardinals' defensive line coach last year. He has been a coach in the NFL for several teams, including the Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, and Cincinnati Bengals.

Burke's first job as a defensive coordinator in the NFL was with the Miami Dolphins, where he served in that role from 2016 to 2018. During his time with the Dolphins, Burke helped lead the team's defense to several strong performances, and he was widely regarded as one of the top young defensive coordinators in the league.

After his time with the Miami Dolphins, Burke joined the Detroit Lions as their defensive coordinator in 2019. In Detroit, he helped the Lions' defense make significant improvements over the course of the season.

Burke beat out New York Jets' safeties coach, Marquand Manuel, for the job.
