Chicago Bears Sign Former Eagles Linebacker

One of the top linebackers in free agency is already off the board.

The Chicago Bears have reportedly secured linebacker TJ Edwards as their first significant free agent signing.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the deal is for three years and worth $19.5 million, with $12 million guaranteed.

Edwards was considered one of the top linebackers available in the free agent market and his signing is expected to address a major need for the Bears at the linebacker position in Matt Eberflus' defense.

He should immediately fill the inside linebacker spot previously occupied by Roquan Smith after the Bears sent him to the Baltimore Ravens at the trade deadline last season.

This past season, Edwards recorded 159 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, two sacks, one fumble recovery, and seven passes defended.

The 26-year-old has spent all four seasons of his career with the Eagles, recording 389 total tackles, five sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two interceptions and 13 passes defended across 61 games played.
