New York Giants Sign Former Lions Cornerback

The New York Giants have signed cornerback Amani Oruwariye to a one-year contract, adding him to their Adoree' Jackson-led corner crew.

Oruwariye previously played for the Detroit Lions, where he was an every-down player in 2020 and 2021 but saw his playing time reduced in 2022.

Despite being rated as the league's worst cornerback last season, Oruwariye had a productive 2021 campaign, intercepting six passes and deflecting 11 more.

The Giants signed Oruwariye to a low-cost deal, offering him a chance for a bounce-back season and an opportunity to bolster their depth at cornerback. While he may work in a reserve or special teams role, he could potentially carve out a niche as a play-making part-timer.

The Giants are still in the market for additional cornerback additions, however, as Aaron Robinson suffered an injury that kept him out for the rest of the 2021 season, and Adoree' Jackson, who missed seven games due to an MCL sprain, is going into a contract year.

Despite these uncertainties, the Giants are hopeful that Oruwariye can contribute to their defensive efforts in the upcoming season. Photo Credit: Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports
