NFL Rumors: Kansas City Chiefs Considering Free Agent WR Beckham Jr.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a hole at wide receiver, and they may sign one of the league's most notable players to fill it. Speaking with Steve Wyche on the NFL Network, head coach Andy Reid entertained the possibility of adding free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

"Odell is a good football player," Reid said. "Yeah, he does a nice job. So, we’ll see how all that goes.”

Juju Smith-Schuster, the Chiefs' leading pass catcher among wide receivers in 2022, departed in free agency this offseason, signing a three-year, $25.5 million deal with the New England Patriots. It marked the second consecutive year the Chiefs parted ways with their leading wideout; they traded Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins before the 2022 NFL Draft.

The Chiefs certainly have a need for a veteran wide receiver. Outside of superstar tight end Travis Kelce, no player on their roster has totalled more than 700 yards receiving in a season at any point in their career. The Chiefs have also recently demonstrated the capacity to rehab diminished assets: before hauling in 78 receptions for 933 yards for the Chiefs last season, Smith-Schuster had compiled a mere 1512 receiving yards in his previous three seasons combined.

Beckham is certainly in need of rehabbing. The three-time Pro Bowler missed the entirety of the 2022 season and hasn't exceeded more than 550 yards receiving in a season since 2019. So long as the price is right, it could be a perfect marriage.
