NFL Rumors: Houston Texans "Are High" On Drafting Kentucky Quarterback

The Houston Texans have been the subject of much speculation leading up to the NFL draft, with many experts questioning their strategy and the direction of their franchise.

One recent report from NFL Network draft analyst Lance Zierlein, a source close to the Texans' organization, has suggested that the Texans could be looking to take a gamble on Kentucky quarterback Will Levis, whom they are reportedly high on.

Zierlein's mock draft has the Texans selecting Texas Tech edge rusher Tyree Wilson with the second overall pick instead of going for a quarterback, prioritizing their needs on the defensive front. However, the Texans are said to be keen on Levis and have plans to trade back up to the seventh overall pick with the Las Vegas Raiders to draft him.

According to reports, the Texans' interest in Levis stems from his impressive performance in the Senior Bowl, where he was named the game's MVP. Levis is a dynamic quarterback with an impressive arm, size, and mobility, making him an ideal fit for the Texans' offensive scheme under coordinator Bobby Slowik.

While the consensus among experts is that quarterbacks Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud are the top two picks in the draft, the Texans may not necessarily go for either of them if they miss out on Young. Instead, they could prioritize their needs on the defensive front and consider the likes of Wilson and Will Anderson Jr.

With two first-round picks in the 2023 draft, the Texans have the flexibility to take a gamble on Levis while also addressing their other needs. While this strategy may be seen as a risk, it could pay off in the long run if Levis proves to be the franchise quarterback that the Texans have been searching for.

Overall, the Texans' interest in drafting Will Levis adds some excitement and intrigue to the upcoming NFL draft, and it remains to be seen if they will be able to land their preferred quarterback with the seventh overall pick. Photo Credit:  Jordan Prather-USA TODAY Sports
