Las Vegas Raiders Claim Recently Waived New England Patriots Cornerback

The New England Patriots to Las Vegas Raiders pipeline isn't over just because former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is no longer the Raiders' head coach. The Raiders announced earlier Tuesday afternoon that they'd claimed recently waived Patriots cornerback Jack Jones.

Jones was a fourth-round pick of the Patriots in the 2022 NFL Draft and demonstrated promise as a rookie, nabbing two interceptions while allowing a mere 64.8 passer rating on throws in his direction.

However, Jones clearly fell out of favor with Patriots brass: he played a mere 121 snaps so far this year after combining for 492 on defense and special teams over 13 appearances last season. He made news this offseason for allegedly attempting to board a plane with two loaded firearms, but charges were eventually dismissed.

Despite a rough 2023, Jones has outperformed his draft status, and he should at the very least provide the Raiders with some low-cost depth. Anything more than that would be gravy for a shockingly feisty Raiders secondary that ranks a respectable eighth in passing yards allowed and ninth in net yards per passing attempt allowed; they ranked 29th and 28th in those categories last year.
