Baker Mayfield Says Tom Brady "Stressed Out" Buccaneers In Last 3 Seasons

Baker Mayfield recently shared how Tom Brady's intense leadership style created a high-pressure atmosphere during his final three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, leaving many in the organization feeling "stressed out."

Speaking on the "Casa De Klub" podcast, Mayfield explained that Brady's relentless drive for perfection set a different tone in the locker room.

"The building was a little bit different with Tom in there," Mayfield said. "He had everybody dialed in, high-strung environment, so I think everybody was pretty stressed out."

While Brady’s approach led to undeniable success, including a Super Bowl victory in 2020 and two division titles, Mayfield hinted at the toll it took on the team.

He shared stories of Brady's frustration with certain play calls, which sometimes led to deliberate throwaways if he disagreed with the decision.

"You hear some of the stories about if he didn’t like a certain play call... there might have been a throwaway on purpose or throwing it at the running back or receiver’s feet," Mayfield noted, emphasizing the pressure to meet Brady's high standards on and off the field.

Now leading the Buccaneers in 2024, Mayfield appears to be fostering a more relaxed environment while keeping the team competitive.

His leadership style has apparently resonated with players and coaches, who have encouraged him to "just be yourself."

So far it's working, with the Buccaneers off to a 2-0 start and Mayfield looking very capable at quarterback.
