NFL Rumors: Dolphins Expected To Start New Quarterback This Week

Tyler Huntley is emerging as the likely starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins' Monday night matchup against the Tennessee Titans, with Tua Tagovailoa sidelined on injured reserve due to a concussion.

Backup Skylar Thompson, who is nursing a painful rib injury from last weekend’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, remains limited in practice, leaving Huntley in prime position to take the reins.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel spoke on the uncertainty around Thompson’s availability, stating, “I’m just letting the process take care of itself,” and emphasizing that the team won’t put him on the field if he’s unable to execute effectively.

Huntley, who was signed off the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad on September 17, has quickly gained traction within Miami’s offense.

Despite Tim Boyle stepping in for Thompson last week due to having more time with the team, Huntley’s rapid progress has caught McDaniel’s attention.

“I’m feeling much more knowledgeable about exactly where he’s at... and very, very encouraged,” McDaniel said, expressing confidence in Huntley’s preparation and readiness.

McDaniel even drew parallels between Huntley’s situation and his experience with the San Francisco 49ers in 2017, when Jimmy Garoppolo quickly took over as starter and led the team to a five-game winning streak.

“There’s an unspoken confidence and conviction that a person has to have where guys believe,” McDaniel said, speaking on the importance of the team’s belief in their quarterback.

With Huntley earning that trust and Thompson still recovering, all signs point to Huntley being the Dolphins’ go-to starter this week.
