NFL Rumors: Ja'Marr Chase "Done Negotiating" With Bengals

Ja'Marr Chase has officially halted contract negotiations with the Cincinnati Bengals for the remainder of the 2024 season, choosing to focus on his performance on the field.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, despite discussions during the offseason, including talks after the 2023 season and at the NFL Combine, Chase felt misled by the team's failure to finalize the extension they had promised.

The Bengals reportedly offered a four-year, $140 million deal that would have made him the highest-paid wide receiver alongside Justin Jefferson.

However, Chase rejected the offer due to issues with the timing and structure of the guaranteed payouts.

Frustrated by the lack of progress, Chase has decided he will not revisit negotiations until the offseason, solidifying his stance by taking out a $50 million insurance policy to protect against injury and lost earnings.

The Bengals, dealing with a lot of salary cap challenges, including the recent big contract for quarterback Joe Burrow, are optimistic that a deal will eventually be reached, but recognize that talks will not resume until after the season.

With Chase under contract through 2025 after the Bengals exercised his fifth-year option, there is no immediate urgency to reach an agreement.

Through two games this season, Chase has 10 receptions on 11 targets for 97 yards.
