NFL Rumors: 3 Wide Receivers Named Prime Trade Candidates

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson runs with the ball during 2024 game.

As NFL training camps approach, a trio of wide receivers—Christian Watson, Treylon Burks, and John Metchie III—are drawing attention as possible trade chips, according to Matt Holder of Bleacher Report

Each finds himself in a different situation, but all three share two things: uncertain futures with their current teams and the talent to be valuable additions elsewhere.

Christian Watson: The Packers' WR Room Got Crowded Fast

Christian Watson is rehabbing from a torn ACL suffered in Week 18, and while he’s optimistic about his recovery—saying he’s in a “really good spot”—his situation in Green Bay is murky. The Packers used a first-round pick on speedster Matthew Golden and a third-rounder on Savion Williams, adding to a group that already includes Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks. With Watson entering the final year of his rookie contract, the former second-round pick could be the odd man out in a now-loaded receiver room.

Treylon Burks: Titans Appear Ready to Move On

Treylon Burks' tenure with the Tennessee Titans hasn’t panned out. After being selected in the first round in 2022, he’s totaled just 53 receptions for 699 yards and one touchdown in three injury-plagued seasons. Tennessee declined his fifth-year option and has since added Tyler Lockett, Van Jefferson, and two rookie receivers in the draft. Burks’ role has been diminished to near-zero, and with teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, and Carolina Panthers reportedly interested, a fresh start could be coming soon.

John Metchie III: Texans Have Too Many Mouths to Feed

After an inspiring return to football following a leukemia diagnosis, John Metchie III has struggled to find his footing in Houston. With just 412 yards and one touchdown over two seasons, he’s fallen behind a retooled Texans receiving corps that includes Nico Collins, Christian Kirk, and promising rookies Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel. Metchie’s in a contract year and reportedly drew trade interest last season—don’t be surprised if he’s moved to a team in need of depth and upside.
