NFL Trade Rumors: Steelers Eyeing Trade For Another WR1

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin looks on during 2024 game.

The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly made an offseason inquiry about trading for New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave, but any hopes of a blockbuster deal appear to have stalled.

According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, both the Steelers and the Cleveland Browns checked in on Olave early this offseason, only to be rebuffed by the Saints.

Breer wrote in his latest mailbag that the Saints “got inquiries from the Browns and Steelers early in the offseason, and rebuffed them.” That matches reporting from multiple outlets noting that, while the Steelers remain in need of a top-flight receiver opposite DK Metcalf, Olave isn’t currently on the market.

Steelers Linked to Chris Olave Trade Talks, But Saints Not Willing to Deal

The Saints picked up Olave’s fifth-year option and view the 24-year-old as a foundational piece for their young offense. Despite missing time with a concussion last season, Olave has already logged two 1,000-yard seasons and remains their most dynamic pass-catcher.

With rookie QBs Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough in development, trading Olave would undercut their offensive structure.

While PennLive’s Nick Farabaugh acknowledged that the Saints “do not seem interested in trading Olave,” he noted that teams make these due-diligence calls frequently.

Unless Pittsburgh is willing to make an offer reminiscent of the DK Metcalf deal — a price tag likely in the second-round pick range or higher — Olave’s status in New Orleans is secure.
