NFL Rumors: Commanders' Terry McLaurin Reveals How Much He Wants On Next Deal

Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin celebrates during 2025 game.

Terry McLaurin is officially holding out, and the number on his mind is $30 million per year.

The Washington Commanders’ veteran wideout has skipped mandatory minicamp and the later phases of the offseason program, hoping to secure a deal that reflects his elite production and value to the team.

After five straight 1,000-yard seasons and a breakout 2024 campaign with 13 touchdowns, McLaurin believes he belongs among the NFL’s top-paid receivers...and he’s not wrong.

Terry McLaurin Eyes Massive $30M Payday in Extension Talks

Albert Breer recently reported that contract talks with McLaurin’s camp are expected to start at $30M annually, which would put him in the league’s top tier. One source even floated a three-year, $100 million framework.

Though he's nearing 30, McLaurin just had his most efficient season and has been the face of the franchise during years of quarterback instability and organizational chaos. Now, with Jayden Daniels in place and the team on the cusp of a Super Bowl window, Washington has every reason to secure its No. 1 weapon.

Commanders Can’t Afford to Let This Drag On

The Commanders appear optimistic a deal will get done, and history suggests it will. McLaurin held out briefly before signing his last extension in 2022. But the longer this goes unresolved, the more questions it raises.

The Commanders have the cap space, Daniels is on a rookie deal, and a top receiver like McLaurin deserves to be paired with a young quarterback long-term. Even after adding Deebo Samuel, McLaurin remains the engine of this offense and the heart of the locker room.

It would appear any talk of a trade or prolonged drama is an overreaction, but it does seem that letting this linger would be a mistake. McLaurin’s absence might not be cause for panic yet, but a deal before training camp seems necessary.
