Tyrod Taylor Steps In While Fields Recovers
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn told reporters that Fields likely had his toe stepped on during a quick throw play. Tyrod Taylor, the Jets' veteran backup, filled in with the first team following Fields’ exit. Glenn reassured reporters, saying, “If anything does happen to Justin, I don’t think there’s any drop-off as far as what we want to do when it comes to play calls.” Taylor, who turns 36 next month, brings leadership and experience as a 14-year NFL veteran with 58 career starts.

Fields' Chemistry and Reps on Pause
This minor injury comes at an inconvenient time for Fields, who’s still acclimating to offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand’s system. Training camp was his chance to develop chemistry with new targets like Allen Lazard and Josh Reynolds while continuing to build on his Ohio State rapport with Garrett Wilson.
Though the Jets are optimistic Fields will be ready for Week 1 against his former team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, even a brief absence slows his integration into the offense, and that could ripple into the regular season if the timing isn’t right.
