NFL Exec Tells Cardinals QB Kyler Murray To Go Try Baseball Again

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray reacts after 2025 game.

Kyler Murray baseball talk is back after an NFL executive told The Athletic that the Arizona Cardinals quarterback “can go try baseball.”

The comment lands in the middle of Murray’s roughest stretch as a pro, with speculation mounting about his role in Arizona and what comes next after a benching for Jacoby Brissett. It has also revived the connection to the Oakland Athletics, who drafted Murray ninth overall in 2018 and still hold his MLB rights.

Why the Baseball Talk Popped Again

Murray’s stock has dipped in a season where the Cardinals offense has not found answers. One coach even mused about him becoming a backup in a system that mirrors his skill set.

Against that backdrop, an executive floated the baseball path, an easy headline given Murray’s two sport background. Obviously, there is no report that he is leaving football. Baseball would require a long ramp and minor league time after years away from the diamond.

What His NFL Future Still Looks Like

The idea that Murray is done as a starter ignores the league’s QB landscape. He would be an upgrade for several teams right now.

If Arizona moves on and the contract hurdle disappears, the market would notice. Even in a down year he offers mobility and past production that outpaces a number of current QB1s.

The Cardinals’ lopsided loss to Seattle under Brissett also showed their issues are not tied to one player. If a split happens, expect teams like the New York JetsCleveland Browns or New Orleans Saints to at least consider the fit before anyone suggests an outfield tryout.
