NFL Rumors: 3 Teams Meeting With Free Agent Asante Samuel Jr.

Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. runs out before 2023 game.

Free-agent cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. is making the post-deadline rounds, with the Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings all scheduling visits this week, per multiple reports.

Carolina gets the first look, followed by Green Bay and Minnesota as all three teams search for secondary help after standing pat at the trade deadline.

Packers, Panthers and Vikings set meetings with CB Asante Samuel Jr.

Samuel, 26, was cleared to return after undergoing spinal/neck fusion surgery in April. A 2021 second-round pick of the Chargers, he’s started 47 games across four seasons, totaling 176 tackles, six interceptions and 37 passes defended (plus three INTs in his lone playoff game).

Primarily an outside corner, he’s allowed a 59.5% completion rate in coverage over his career and could play some slot in a pinch.

Each suitor has a clear need. The Panthers have Jaycee Horn playing at a high level but are thin behind him.

The Packers are dealing with injuries and inconsistency on the boundary. The Vikings’ corner room has been up-and-down, with depth concerns as they push for a playoff spot.
