NFL Rumors: Jets Linked To Two Quarterbacks

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray walks out before 2025 game.

New York’s quarterback plan might get busy really quick.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler floated a league-wide expectation that the New York Jets could explore veteran trade options, with Geno Smith and Kyler Murray emerging as two of the most realistic names to watch as Aaron Glenn steps into a must-win kind of first year.

Geno Smith

Smith is the easier “mechanics” move. He has the experience, he’s a former Pro Bowler, and he already knows the building from his first run with the Jets, when he threw 28 touchdowns and 36 interceptions across four seasons.

Smith’s contract is also the kind of structure a front office can actually work with, which is why Fowler’s reporting has people circling him as the most manageable veteran path if the Jets want competence right now without totally handcuffing the future.

This season, the 35-year-old recorded 3,025 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and a brutal 17 interceptions across 15 games played with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Kyler Murray

Murray is the higher-upside play and the bigger headache.

On resume alone, he’s a former Pro Bowler and the 2019 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, with the kind of playmaking that can change a franchise’s ceiling overnight.

The problem is cost and commitment. His guarantees are massive, and the contract math is exactly why Fowler framed it as complicated unless Arizona is willing to eat a big chunk of money.

This past season, the 28-year-old recorded 962 passing yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions across five games before going down with injury. He also added 173 rushing yards and one touchdown on 29 attempts.
