New York Giants Sign Veteran Quarterback

The New York Giants signed veteran quarterback Brandon Allen, adding a third arm to a room that already features Jaxson Dart and Jameis Winston.

Allen, 33, has been around (former sixth-round pick out of Arkansas by Jacksonville in 2016), and he's since played for six franchises without ever locking down a starting job.

Over 19 career games and 10 starts, he's completed 56.7% of his passes for 1,882 yards, 11 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

His best football came with Cincinnati in 2020, when he went 90-of-142 for 925 yards and five touchdowns in five starts, which are numbers that earned him a second contract with the Bengals and didn't go unnoticed by the man now coaching New York's quarterbacks.

The Callahan Thread

This move reunites Allen with Giants quarterbacks coach Brian Callahan,  who served as Cincinnati's offensive coordinator during Allen's most productive stretch and most recently crossed paths with him in Tennessee.

Allen is widely regarded league-wide for his football IQ and his knowledge of how Callahan structures offenses, which is exactly why this signing makes sense even at third on the depth chart.

Allen replaces Russell Wilson in the QB room, who began the 2025 season as New York's starter before being benched three games in for then-rookie Dart.

What It Means Going Forward

Allen's arrival on what's believed to be a veteran minimum deal should not exclude the Giants from adding a developmental prospect on the practice squad once the 53-man roster is sorted.

The front office's job this spring is to protect Dart at all costs, as he's the franchise passer, and the Giants aren't going to stake the season on Jameis Winston going 17 games without incident.
