Chiefs' Rashee Rice Sentenced To Jail Time
Dallas County court documents confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver tested positive for THC in violation of the terms of his probation, triggering an immediate enforcement of the 30-day jail sentence that was part of his original plea agreement last July.
"Defendant tested positive for THC," the court order reads. "Defendant placed in custody. Defendant ordered to serve the thirty days in jail previously ordered on July 17, 2025. Defendant to be released from custody on June 16, 2026."
Rice is set to be released five days after the Chiefs' mandatory minicamp concludes on June 11, meaning he will miss the OTA sessions scheduled for May 26-28 and June 1-3 in addition to the mandatory camp entirely.
The Chiefs declined to comment.
The NFL issued a brief statement saying the league was aware of the report and would decline further comment at this time.
The Background
Rice pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges in July 2025 (collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury) stemming from a multi-car crash on a Dallas highway in March 2024.
As part of the plea agreement, Rice was sentenced to five years of deferred probation and 30 days in jail, with the understanding that he could choose when to serve the jail time as long as he remained compliant with the terms of his probation.

By testing positive for THC, Rice forfeited that flexibility.
The 30-day sentence he had been able to defer is now being served immediately.
He had already served a separate six-game NFL suspension to open the 2025 regular season for his role in the crash.
When he returned, he produced at an impressive rate in limited action, catching 53 passes for 571 yards and five touchdowns in eight games before a concussion shut him down for the final weeks of the season.
What This Means for Kansas City
Rice enters this offseason as the player the Chiefs intended to build their passing game around in 2026, the final year of his four-year rookie deal worth approximately $8.8 million.
Patrick Mahomes has limited receiving options around him.
Xavier Worthy is the next man up in the receiver corps and finished 2025 with 42 catches for 532 yards and one touchdown after his own injury-interrupted season.
Tyquan Thornton was also re-signed to a two-year deal after contributing in a part-time role last year.

He was booked this afternoon in Dallas County, Texas, and will be released from custody on June 16. That timeline means he’ll miss OTAs and… pic.twitter.com/TX56TTfKeY
Jalen Royals and fifth-round rookie Cyrus Allen round out a group that has very little proven production behind Rice.
The jail sentence does not affect the start of training camp in late July, which means Rice should be available for the most important preparation stretches of the summer.
But missing OTAs and minicamp is not nothing for a receiver entering a contract year who is also trying to develop chemistry with Mahomes in an offense that has looked thin at the position for two consecutive seasons.
