NFL Rumors: NFC West Team Viewed As Best Fit For Stefon Diggs

New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs reacts during 2026 game.

Stefon Diggs has been a free agent since being released by the Patriots after their Super Bowl run, found not guilty of all charges in a Massachusetts court, and is now closer to signing somewhere than at any point since February.

Matt Bowen of ESPN made his case Monday for where that somewhere should be.

"The Ravens could be a fit for Diggs, but I really like him in L.A. alongside Puka Nacua and Davante Adams," Bowen wrote. "The Los Angeles Rams attempted 430 passes out of 11 personnel last season, which was ninth most in the league, and Diggs is a natural separator who can line up inside or outside. Plus, he has the toughness to work the middle of the field on in-breaking concepts, a key element of coach Sean McVay's offense."

Diggs had 85 catches for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns with the Patriots last season, nearly double the next closest New England receiver.

He was a significant contributor to a Super Bowl team at age 31.

He is 32 now, and the role in Los Angeles is different, and the expectations would need to reflect that.

Why the Rams Make Sense

The Rams drafted quarterback Ty Simpson with the 13th overall pick rather than any of the receivers on the board, and did not select a receiver until the sixth round.

With Nacua as the WR1 and Adams, who turns 34 next season, in the WR2 role, the depth behind them is unproven.

Diggs in a WR3 role does not need to be an elite separator or a number-one option anymore.

He needs to provide reliable third-read presence that Sean McVay's offense specifically creates and exploits.

McVay's system ran 430 passes out of three-receiver sets last season, which means a WR3 who can win individual matchups in the slot and on in-breaking routes matters more in Los Angeles than almost anywhere else.

Diggs has done exactly that throughout his career, and the opportunity to play in a legit Super Bowl contender alongside Matthew Stafford, who came off an MVP season, makes Los Angeles organizationally attractive.
