Per Todd Archer of ESPN, multiple sources indicated the Cowboys had "high interest" in former Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby when he attempted to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft.
The NFL ultimately declined to hold a supplemental draft this year, ending those chances and redirecting Sorsby toward the 2027 NFL Draft.
The Logic Behind It
On the surface, the interest is surprising, as the Cowboys are not a quarterback-needy team in the slightest.
Prescott is coming off a strong 2025 campaign in which he finished top-five in passing yards and touchdowns, and he is signed through the 2028 season.
But Prescott turns 33 this month, and Archer noted that an attempt to find his successor at what could have been a lower-than-expected price would have made sense even if it drew added attention to the quarterback room.

Dallas has shown a willingness to take chances on young quarterbacks, currently rostering Joe Milton and Sam Howell behind Prescott, and owner Jerry Jones has long had a fondness for redemption-story prospects available at a low cost.
One source said that Dallas might have been willing to spend a second-round pick for a shot at the 6-foot-3 signal-caller.
The Controversy
Sorsby's path has been anything but smooth.
He was one of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal after two strong seasons as the starter at Cincinnati, where he threw for over 5,600 yards and 45 touchdowns, and signed a massive NIL deal to join Texas Tech.
Before he could take the field, his long-standing gambling addiction came to light, stemming from his admission to betting on college and pro sports dating back to his freshman year at Indiana, leading to an NCAA suspension.
He fought the suspension in court and won, but with the NCAA seeking to drag out proceedings, he attempted the supplemental draft route.
Since Sorsby no longer has college eligibility and will not play in 2026, it will be difficult for him to become a surefire first-round prospect without game film, though multiple NFL scouts believed he would have been a high first-round pick in 2026 had he been eligible.
Given the Cowboys' documented interest, Dallas could very well revisit the idea when Sorsby becomes available in the 2027 draft.
