Jets Sign Former Titans' Starting Quarterback

The New York Jets are taking a flier on a former high draft pick who couldn't find a role anywhere else.

New York signed quarterback Will Levis to its practice squad, with Bailey Zappe released from the practice squad in a corresponding move.

Levis had worked out for the Jets before Week 1, and the team finally made the move following New York's overtime collapse against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2.

A Career That Fell Apart Fast

Levis was the 33rd overall pick in the 2023 draft, taken by Tennessee after a well-known slide out of the first round on draft night.

He started 21 games for the Titans across his first two seasons, completing 61 percent of his passes for 3,899 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions, but went just 5-16 as a starter, undone by turnovers.

Tennessee drafted Cam Ward first overall in 2025, and Levis missed that entire season recovering from shoulder surgery.

The Titans ultimately waived him at the end of this year's preseason, keeping veteran Mitchell Trubisky as Ward's backup instead.

Levis hasn't lost his own confidence through any of it. "There are not 32 quarterbacks in this league better than me. I know that for sure," he said during training camp this summer.

Why New York Made The Move Now

The Jets currently carry just two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster, starter Geno Smith and fourth-round rookie Cade Klubnik, giving New York incentive to stash a proven, if inconsistent, arm in reserve.

Zappe, who was let go to make room, had nine career starts of his own but never took a regular-season snap in 2025.

Levis, 27, now gets a chance to rebuild his value behind Smith and Klubnik.
