Eagles Wide Receiver Already Unhappy With Role After Week 1

Marquise "Hollywood" Brown signed with the Eagles this offseason expecting to be part of the answer for a receiver room that had just lost A.J. Brown. 

One week into the season, he hasn't been part of anything at all.

Zero Snaps, No Explanation

Brown was active for Philadelphia's Week 1 win over Washington and didn't play a single offensive snap, a stunning outcome for a player the team signed to a one-year, $6.5 million deal specifically to add speed to the passing game. 

He didn't hide his frustration afterward, telling reporters there had been "no conversations" with the coaching staff about his role heading into the game. "I just come to work," Brown said, "and when my opportunity comes, be ready for it." 

The situation is surprising given how much turnover happened in Philadelphia's receiver room this offseason. 

The Eagles signed Hollywood Brown for $6.5M this offseason.

The Eagles traded A.J. Brown to the Patriots in June, and rather than hand the vacated role to Hollywood Brown outright, they've instead spread snaps across a crowded group that includes DeVonta Smith, Dontayvion Wicks, rookie first-rounder Makai Lemon and Elijah Moore. 

Smith and Wicks got the start in Week 1, with Lemon and Darius Cooper also logging offensive snaps ahead of Brown. 

When asked whether he expected more involvement going forward, Brown was noncommittal. "That I don't know," he said. "I just got to come to work. If it do, it do. If it don't, it don't." 

Sirianni Says It'll Change. Brown Isn't Convinced

Head coach Nick Sirianni spoke on the situation this week and didn't dispute that Brown deserves more playing time, saying his lack of involvement will change going forward. 

Brown's response suggested he's heard that kind of reassurance before and isn't taking it at face value. 

Asked whether Sirianni's comments made him feel better heading into Week 2 against Tennessee, Brown didn't soften anything. "Nah, no, it don't," he said bluntly, before adding that he's not dwelling on it and is focused on being ready for his next opportunity.

Brown gets his next chance to prove he belongs in the rotation this Sunday against the Titans.
