NFL GM Predicts Former Pro Bowl QB Will Be Traded

An NFL general manager has a short answer on Gardner Minshew's future in Arizona.

"Gone by the deadline."

That's what the GM told Jason La Canfora of Casino.org for his Week 3 diary. The column came out last week, but the situation around Minshew has only gotten more interesting since.

La Canfora didn't name the GM, and he didn't report that any team has called.

Arizona Has A Reason To Move Him

Jacoby Brissett is the starter.

Through the first three games, he was completing 70.1 percent of his passes with four touchdowns and one interception. Third-round rookie Carson Beck is recovering from a rib injury and could eventually move into the backup role.

Head coach Mike LaFleur has Minshew and Beck splitting scout-team reps in practice, and the Cardinals are 1-3 after a 36-24 loss to the Giants.

Minshew signed a one-year deal with $5.14 million guaranteed in free agency. That guarantee reportedly irked Brissett, who had $1.5 million guaranteed at the time despite being ahead on the depth chart.

Demand Could Come From Anywhere

Minshew is 30, a former sixth-round pick, and made the Pro Bowl with Indianapolis in 2023.

He has 47 career starts, though his teams are 17-30 in them. Last year he appeared in four games for Kansas City, going 6-for-13 for 37 yards and an interception.

Quarterback injuries keep opening the market.

The Giants already gave Minnesota a 2027 fifth-round pick for J.J. McCarthy after Jaxson Dart's season-ending injury. Tampa Bay is winless, and Baker Mayfield dislocated his right thumb.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports he's expected to miss three to six weeks, depending on how quickly he can grip the football.

Undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels is starting in his place, and didn't look great this past week.

The trade deadline is November 10, and it will be interesting to see if he gets moved.
