Report: Eagles Expected To Trade Wide Receiver After Healthy Scratch

Philadelphia Eagles receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is a name teams seeking receiver help believe could be traded in the coming weeks, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Schultz wrote Tuesday that Brown “is a name that teams seeking WR help believe could be traded in the coming weeks,” and he noted that Brown is healthy and has a 1,000-yard season on his resume.

Schultz didn’t report that Philadelphia is shopping Brown or that any team has called about him, and CBS Sports noted that receiver-needy teams will likely ask about his status before the November 10 deadline.

He Hasn’t Had A Role In Philadelphia

Brown signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the Eagles this offseason, which can be worth up to $6.5 million, as Philadelphia retooled its receiver room after trading A.J. Brown to the Patriots.

Brown is 29, was a first-round pick of the Ravens in 2019, and has appeared in just one game for the Eagles without a catch.

He was active but didn’t play an offensive snap in Week 1, and in Week 2 against Tennessee he played 17 snaps with two carries for 12 yards and no targets.

He then missed three games with an ankle injury and was a healthy scratch for last Sunday’s loss to Carolina, when the Eagles had six receivers active ahead of him in DeVonta Smith, Dontayvion Wicks, rookie Makai Lemon, Darius Cooper, Elijah Moore, and Britain Covey.

Bleeding Green Nation wrote that Brown “doesn’t have a role in Philly” and that it’s hard to believe the Eagles would get much back in a trade, adding that they might just have to cut him.

Why A Team Might Still Call

Brown caught 49 passes for 587 yards and five touchdowns in 16 games with the Chiefs last season.

Brown said he strongly considered signing with the Ravens this offseason, though nothing suggests Baltimore has been in touch.

The Eagles are 2-4 with four straight losses and Jalen Hurts will miss the rest of the season, which has fueled speculation that Philadelphia could become a seller at the deadline.

Brown is on a one-year deal, so any team that acquires him would be getting a rental, and the trade deadline is November 10.
